Police Officer Representation

Call (020) 3137 4800

Eastwoods is on the Police Federation’s Panel of Legal Services Providers.

Consistent with our ethos of representing individuals, we act for individual police officers, whether Federation or otherwise funded. We will vigorously defend police officers of all ranks throughout gross misconduct investigations or criminal proceedings (including at interviews), provide representation during Post-Incident Procedures and have extensive expertise in inquests and employment proceedings.

We offer a bespoke service (in conjunction with the Federation rep) to guide and support officers through what we know can be a daunting, stressful, intimidating and lengthy process.

Misconduct/Gross Misconduct Investigations

As a leading firm in regulatory defence, our team of defence solicitors offers representation to police officers facing allegations of misconduct or gross misconduct, including where investigations are undertaken by the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC). We work closely with the officer and Federation rep to analyse the case and advise as to the way forward at an early stage. We can advise on Regulation 15 Notices, draft Regulation 16 responses and remain involved to support and provide robust representation, where necessary through to a gross misconduct hearing. If matters proceed to a hearing, we have strong relationships with exceptional barristers in this field.

Criminal Investigations

Eastwoods’ Criminal Defence Solicitors have years of experience of defending a wide range of individuals facing criminal investigations, and we offer the same high-quality service to police officers. We can assist with all manner of allegations, whether they occurred on or off duty, from allegations such as common assault and road traffic incidents to serious incidents such as shootings or dishonesty-related offences. We offer initial advice and representation at police interviews and, where necessary, representation all the way to trial, working in conjunction with experienced criminal barristers.

It is not uncommon for police officers to have to attend an inquest related to an operational incident. Eastwoods’ team of solicitors has a great deal of experience and expertise in representing clients both at and in preparation for inquests. Whether you are attending as an Interested Person or just as a factual witness, we are well aware of the potential ramifications of evidence given at an inquest and we will manage the proceedings insofar as possible to protect your interests, always mindful of the sensitive nature of inquests and that they can be a distressing, difficult process for those involved. We are able to assist from start to finish, commencing with preparation of a written statement for the Coroner if that has not already been done. Thereafter, we will attend Pre-Inquest Reviews and represent you at the inquest itself. We often perform the advocacy at these hearings, but where necessary we are able to instruct high quality counsel.

Our Employment Solicitors offer support, guidance and advice to police officers experiencing work-related problems. We are able to assist with a wide range of issues, including:

  • Racial discrimination
  • Sexual discrimination
  • Discrimination on grounds of sexual orientation
  • Discrimination on grounds of religion
  • Age discrimination
  • Pay-related disputes
  • Whistleblowing
  • Breach of contract
  • Pensions issues

We recognise the long-lasting financial, emotional and reputational impact employment issues can have on the officer concerned, and always strive to achieve the best possible outcome for each client in the most pragmatic and cost-effective way.

If you are a police officer facing any of these issues, contact us at the earliest opportunity to receive the advice, support and guidance you need.
